...I was speaking with someone this week. He thinks we might be able to persuade Lord Satan to let the dead go as well, but it's far from a certain thing.
[Oh... He's quiet for a moment, though he doesn't look surprised.]
Actually... I wanted to talk to you about that, too.
Malibu says we might be able to talk things out with his boss, but only if we have a solid idea, and even then there's no guarantee. But he offered to let me run a plan past him if I came up with something before the party. For the dead. And... the personal demons, too. [...] Who was it you talked with?
Blue. He said we ought to come up with some sort of group plan. The boss is a bit soft hearted and might be convinced, but he also cares what the rest of the demons think. He'd only agree if we could come up with an excuse, where he wouldn't appear too lenient on us.
They all seem to think he's more reasonable than you'd assume from the literal ruler of hell. [But they work for him, so presumably they'd know best. He puts a hand to his chin, thinking.] ... If the biggest hurdle will be maintaining his reputation, then we need to come up with something where it looks like he got the better end of the deal.
Have you talked to him at all? I hate to admit it, but he is. He thought twenty spots would lead to us bickering like in a television show, not killing one another.
[but she nods, agreeing to that.]
...I asked Itto, as I thought he was likely about as stupid as the demons we plan to fool. He suggested a twist where the dead return for revenge against all of us.
Don't let me overstate it - he is the Lord of hell. He expects respect, he is powerful, and he is not such a bleeding heart that he would let us go if it inconveniences him. But he is not cruel.
[so that's a distinction.]
Yes - he does seem to have not managed to convince the denizens of hell not to whine and complain. Perhaps it would serve his position if he were to banish us someplace worse.
I'm not sure the demons here are paying close enough attention to know that.
If anything, we could demand Satan change the rules and let the winners stay here as lords of hell and banish the rest. And then we can all lose if we want to leave, and genuinely try to win if we'd like to stay.

...I wanted your thoughts on something.

[Sir, they all belong in hell for one reason or another... He snorts, though.]
So the dead come back for revenge against us, and... then what? He has to kick us all out because we convinced the dead to turn on him instead?

[Hmm...]
"Someplace worse" being, conveniently, our own worlds? That could be an easy sell for some realms, but for others... Not so much.
[Their slice-of-life canons.]

But we need to bargain for more than just a different reward. The dead and the personal demons can't compete under the current rules.

[the personal demons, though...]
Maybe we all want revenge on the personal demons, and should demand they prove they deserve their roles, too.
