Don't let me overstate it - he is the Lord of hell. He expects respect, he is powerful, and he is not such a bleeding heart that he would let us go if it inconveniences him. But he is not cruel.

Yes - he does seem to have not managed to convince the denizens of hell not to whine and complain. Perhaps it would serve his position if he were to banish us someplace worse.
